Research studies!

If you are under 40 years old, have perfect vision or wear contacts and do not suffer from major neurological or psychiatric illness, please read on: We are seeking volunteers for a research study on decision-making being conducted at the Montreal Neurological Institute. The study involves questionnaires, computer games, and pencil-and-paper tests of decision-making, and a testing session takes 2 to 3 hours. If you wish, you may participate in up to 4 such sessions. McGill & the MNI seek women aged 18-21 on Depo-Provera who do not experience pain during intercourse to participate in a brain imaging study designed to examine how the brain mediates genital pain. The research is directed by Dr. Binik, Dept of Psych, McGill & Dr. Schweinhardt, Faculty of Dentistry, McGill. Participation includes a 30-min interview, a 90-min sensory testing session, & a 90-min brain scan session. Some pain will be experienced during the procedure, but no other health risks are posed. A study conducted at the MGH by Dr. Daskalopoulou is looking for healthy individuals (20-45 years old) to examine the effect of smoking and exercise on arterial stiffness. The study involves a questionnaire, exercise test, small blood and saliva samples, and non-invasive pulse measurements. Smokers come in for 3 separate assessments (1.5 hrs each) and non/former smokers only once. Participants are followed every 6 months for 2 years. Compensation is provided. The McGill Nutrition and Food Science Centre (Investigator: Errol B. Marliss, MD) seeks healthy body weight men,18-35 years of age, non-smoking to participate in a study of the effect of insulin on protein metabolism.  McGill's Infant Speech Perception Lab is looking for bilingual (English-French) adults between the ages of 18 and 40 (with no history of hearing loss), who consider themselves to be more proficient in French.
